Hearth & Rye Bakery

Slow Bread, Good Coffee, Right Around the Corner

Hearth & Rye is a neighborhood sourdough bakery and cafe on Millbrook Avenue in Alder Hollow. We've been baking naturally leavened bread here since 2017, and we still start every loaf the night before.

What We Bake

Our starter is older than the bakery. It goes into everything we make, from the country loaf to the seeded rye. We use flour from Cascade Valley Mill, about 90 miles away, and we let our dough ferment for at least 18 hours. That's where the flavor comes from.

Breads

Country sourdough, seeded rye, olive and rosemary, whole wheat spelt, and a weekend-only cinnamon raisin

Pastries

Croissants, morning buns, cardamom knots, and seasonal fruit galettes

Coffee

Espresso drinks and drip from Ridgeline Roasters, plus a house chai we make from scratch

Weekend Pre-Orders

Saturday mornings get busy, and our country loaf usually sells out by 10. If you don't want to leave it to luck, pre-order by Thursday at 6 p.m. We'll have your bread bagged with your name on it, ready for pickup Saturday or Sunday.

Come Sit a While

The cafe has 24 seats, a long communal table, and a sunny window counter. Bring a book. Stay for a second cup. Nobody's going to rush you out.

I've tried every bakery in town. Hearth & Rye is the only one I'll drive across town for on a Saturday.
